18 of 18 people found the following review helpful Endura was TOO good!, Heavy Reader (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Refresh Dry Eye Therapy Unit Dose (Health and Beauty) This was THE VERY BEST non-prescription treatment for chronic Dry Eye, but I think Allergan decided to kill it because it their own studies were showing that it was just as effective as their very expensive prescription Restasis product. (Restatis is the very same formula plus cyclosporin.) First they repackaged Endura as "Dry Eye Therapy for Sensitive Eyes" and added a new multi-use bottle version containing an oxychloro preservative (presumably for "Insensitive Eyes" which is never the case for Dry Eye sufferers). So all the loyal Endura customers had a hard time finding it among the many Refresh products with similar names. Now Allergan tells me they have discontinued manufacturing Dry Eye Therapy drops completely. Stores can continue selling the existing stock until they run out or the product expires. On the other hand: The good news may be that Allergan will lose any patent protection they had for this formula, since patents are only valid for holders who work... Unbelievable., Loveebooks - See all my reviews This review is from: Refresh Dry Eye Therapy Unit Dose (Health and Beauty) Well this is easily the best product ever produced for dry eyes, I am a physician myself, and sure restasis could be great but it has cyclosporine (with castor oil). This product is similar with castor oil but without cyclosporine and it really really worked. Seems to me this minimizing ingredients is the safest way to go, especially since it works without cyclosporine. I did email allergan and asked them to recontinue this product, but of course no answer. Needless to say I have ended my relationship with allergan. Also, please any other manufactor start production on a similar oil based drop and be sure to make it preservative free.. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful If Anyone Manages to Obtain a Straight Answer from Allergan, SwissAmerican - See all my reviews This review is from: Refresh Dry Eye Therapy Unit Dose (Health and Beauty) I'd be really curious to know the explanation behind Allergan discontinuing this drug. And I don't think it's too farfetched to believe that they want to force users to buy the prescription version, Restasis. Like other reviewers here, I used Endura/Dry Eye Therapy exclusively and found it to be the ONLY eye drops helpful for my dry eye/meibomian gland condition. I believe this is in large part due to the "inactive" ingredient, castor oil*.I have contacted a compound pharmacy, and they will create a similar product for me (needs a prescription from my eye doctor), but it's pricey. However, after my experiences with Allergan (first, they discontinued Endura, then remarketed it under a different name at a 20% higher price, then discontinued that product without any explanation), I'd rather give me money to the local economy, if you know what I mean. For those curious about castor oil, the main paper on the subject is: Goto E, Shimazaki J, Monden Y, Takano Y, Yagi Y,... Read more |
